ABOUT THE BOOK
For His Glory is the amazing story of Joyce’s inspiration on a lone country road to buy a race horse and name him “For His Glory”.

Never owning a thoroughbred or even traversing the backstretch of a race track was a daunting thought. How would she tell her husband? And there were two young daughters. After all, she was just an ordinary housewife with a ‘grand’ vision. Was this really a ‘heavenly’ inspiration. Would her husband really say “if you can find a race horse for $1,700 (all they had in savings) then, okay.” She soon knew the name of the stable, design of the jockey silks, and eventually the reason for it all, before it ever happened.
The storyline starts at the tender age of five, when she mostly lived with her immigrant Polish grandparents. Woven in the memoir is the world situation at that time, when Communism ruled Poland. Her grandfather, John, loved racing. Soon, she with others at the ranch began ownership of a motley yearling, and learning about the life of a breeder and trainer. The people she met and their stories in this hidden world of hard working men and women would consume nearly thirteen years.
The incredible highs and lows of this sport are full of true stories of the hearts and minds of those who keep the sport of horseracing alive for all of us. A news report about For His Glory one evening was one of the most exciting events. Yes, he would be known, and the stable name too, evidence that this was the beginning of the revelation of the White Horse of the Apocalypse.
Joyce’s dream of one day owning and riding her ‘baby’ was realized. She would not have guessed that one day, after his racing career was over, that he would win a prestigious riding event, one they say never won by a thoroughbred.
For His Glory is factually represented and a tribute at the end recognizes all those who make the Sport of Kings possible.
